Improving Access July 2008
From Monday 7th July some of the doctors in the practice will be trialling a new appointment system. It is hoped that the new system will improve access to our service and enhance continuity of care (i.e. enable you to see your usual doctor).
When you ‘phone the practice to request a routine appointment your details will be taken by the receptionist and the doctor will then call you back to discuss your needs. If an appointment is needed the doctor will arrange this with you directly. The doctor may be able to provide care over the phone with no need for a face to face contact; or the doctor may be able to arrange for you to have further tests or see a nurse if needed.
This system has been tried elsewhere in the country and has demonstrated the following benefits for patients:
•Patients can readily speak to their GP
•Patients can see their GP sooner when appropriate
•Patients get more time with their GP when they need it
•Patients can save time by avoiding unnecessary appointments
This new system has the potential to transform the way the practice works and the quality of care we provide.
We will monitor the impact of this new system during the coming weeks. Your feedback would be most welcome. Please address comments to Dr R Westgate, Brunswick House Medical Group, Carlisle CA1 1ED
